The Golden Age was a unique period in a unique place. It lasted approximately 30 years, from the first Talkies in 1927 up to the advent of popular television in the late 1950's, and it incorporates the glamour, the style, the sex-appeal and the sheer razamatazz of an era which produced many great films, great directors and some of the greatest stars ever to grace the screen.
You will find on these pages no modern stars or films. The criteria for inclusion is that the movies must have been started before 1960 and the stars must either be deceased or have a career start before 1950.
The Movie business has changed just as we, the audience have changed. The Golden Age will never come back.... But we can still enjoy it.
| Early Hollywood. How it all started. The early American Movie Industry was based around New York and Hollywood was little more than a farm town a few miles northwest of Los Angeles. In early 1910, director D. W. Griffith was sent to the west coast with his acting troop consisting of Mary Pickford, Lionel Barrymore, and others. They started filming on a vacant lot near Georgia Street .........Hollywood History is continued here.... |
